AI Engineer (m/w/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential software development organization in Nürnberg that is building production-grade AI solutions for real-world business applications. Our client needs an AI Engineer who can take AI from demonstration to deployment—building robust, scalable systems that clients can rely on daily.

In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain AI-powered software solutions from concept through stable production deployment
• Build agentic systems with tool calling, multi-step workflows, state management, retry logic, fallbacks, human-in-the-loop patterns, and appropriate guardrails
• Implement LLM applications including RAG pipelines, structured extraction, evaluation frameworks, and observability
• Integrate machine learning models, foundation models, and data-driven services into existing and new systems, including APIs, data flows, and surrounding infrastructure
• Develop scalable, maintainable, and performant applications on modern cloud platforms
• Identify AI use cases in client projects and provide honest assessments of when agentic solutions are appropriate versus deterministic alternatives
• Use AI tools productively and responsibly in your own development workflow—coding, review, and delivery—and mentor the team on best practices
• Provide technical consulting on architecture, technology selection, and build-versus-buy decisions
• Ensure code quality through clean code principles, testing, reviews, and best practices
• Help shape the growing AI competency area by setting direction, sharing knowledge, and establishing standards

This is a hands-on role. You will build, deploy, and debug your own work.

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Several years of experience in modern software development, ideally with full-stack expertise
• Practical experience with LLMs and generative AI in real projects: prompting, RAG, embeddings/vector databases, function calling, fine-tuning, or agent frameworks
• Experience with or strong interest in agentic engineering—you have taken an agent beyond demo status or are eager to do so
• Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals and data processing, including what models can and cannot do
• Cloud development experience with AWS and/or Azure, including CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code
• Comfort with clean code principles, SOLID design, and software architecture
• Independent, responsible work style with strong analytical and conceptual abilities
• Ability to develop pragmatic solutions for complex requirements and think beyond immediate constraints
• High motivation and passion for software development in a rapidly evolving field
• Very good German language skills (C1 level) in speaking and writing, plus good English

Nice to have:

• Experience with frameworks such as Angular,.NET, or NestJS
• Programming languages: C#, TypeScript, Python
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform and/or CDK
