About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential workers' compensation defense law firm in California that is building a modern, attorney-focused practice. Our client operates with a low-volume caseload model that allows their legal professionals to deliver exceptional results. This is a fully remote position for an attorney admitted to the California State Bar, with required travel throughout Southern California for depositions, hearings, and trials.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of workers' compensation defense cases with dedicated support staff at a 2:1 assignment ratio
- Conduct legal research and develop comprehensive defense strategies
- Represent employers, insurers, and third-party administrators in hearings, trials, and appeals
- Draft pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements
- Assess claims, advise clients on exposure and liability, and negotiate favorable settlements
- Ensure compliance with California workers' compensation laws and remain current on regulatory changes
- Participate in mediation and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
- Take and defend depositions for applicants and medical professionals
- Appear at all workers' compensation hearings including status conferences, priority conferences, mandatory settlement conferences, and lien conferences
- Prepare cases for trial (trial experience preferred but not required)
What We're Looking For
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- 2-10 years of experience in workers' compensation defense litigation
- Strong knowledge of California workers' compensation law
- Experience taking applicant depositions and taking/defending medical depositions
- Experience appearing at various workers' compensation hearings
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- Must reside in California and be available for in-person appearances throughout Southern California

Compensation & Benefits
Our client offers a base salary range of $110,000-$215,000 depending on experience, plus quarterly bonuses. The benefits package includes medical, vision, and dental insurance, 401(k) with up to 4% employer match, and commuter benefits. All home office equipment is provided.
