Staff Mobile Engineer – Retail

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential technology company in their search for a Staff Mobile Engineer to join their retail product organization. Our client is scaling a high-growth retail delivery platform serving millions of customers across major European markets. This is a high-impact role shaping how users discover and purchase retail products through native mobile applications.

You'll work on consumer-facing iOS applications at significant scale, leading complex initiatives across multiple engineering teams. This role requires deep mobile expertise combined with strong architectural judgment—you'll be building within large shared codebases where different teams own distinct product journeys within the same application.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross-team mobile initiatives from design through launch and operational ownership, partnering with product, design, and business stakeholders to deliver measurable outcomes
• Drive native iOS (and potentially Android) development within shared consumer applications, balancing delivery speed with long-term code quality and maintainability
• Design and implement server-driven UI components and configurable view architectures that support rapid product iteration
• Establish engineering standards across architecture, testing, release processes, observability, and incident management—anticipating scalability and reliability needs
• Champion AI-enabled development tooling and practices that accelerate mobile engineering without compromising quality
• Communicate complex technical decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, providing realistic estimates and timelines
• Mentor mobile engineers including those transitioning into mobile development, fostering best practices and strong engineering culture

What We're Looking For

• Deep expertise in iOS development including modern frameworks, performance optimization, observability, modularity, SDK design, server-driven UI, CI/CD pipelines, and App Store release processes
• Demonstrated experience operating at Staff Engineer level or equivalent, having successfully led initiatives spanning multiple teams or organizations
• Proven track record building large-scale native consumer applications, ideally in environments where app ownership is distributed across multiple feature teams
• Pragmatic, impact-focused approach with bias for action and ability to deliver simple, effective solutions in ambiguous or fast-changing conditions
• Strong stakeholder influence and alignment skills through clear technical communication and leadership
• Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to continuous learning culture
• Practical experience using AI tools in your engineering workflow, with good judgment about validation, quality control, and appropriate use cases
• Android experience in addition to iOS is a strong plus
