Responsibilities
We are representing a confidential media organization seeking a Senior News Editor to coordinate personality-focused national affairs coverage. You will lead digital coverage for a major current events vertical, managing everything from routine daily news to breaking news situations. Your role includes developing strategy and content opportunities around trends, national figures, and topical issues.
Day-to-day, you'll spend your time:
- Finding, overseeing, assigning and editing a high volume of stories daily, collaborating with legal on vetting (40%)
- Strategizing coverage, making assignments and overseeing execution using editorial calendars, data and analytics (30%)
- Overseeing the digital footprint on large-scale event coverage (10%)
- Strategizing and preparing for news moments ahead of time (10%)
- Writing as needed and handling other duties as assigned (10%)
What We're Looking For
Our talent team is seeking an editor with:
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Minimum 7 years working in a high-volume digital news operation with proven leadership experience
- Exceptional skill at mining social media and other sources for new and exclusive stories
- Strong writing and editing skills with impeccable journalistic standards and attention to detail
- Ability to respond quickly to breaking news and prioritize urgent vs. non-urgent content
- Solid news judgment and ability to identify potentially high-traffic stories
- Fluent understanding of the digital landscape, including content streams, SEO and analytics
- Proven ability to drive traffic
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently
- Strong management skills with clear, respectful communication
- Passion for and knowledge of national affairs-related issues and the media landscape
