Senior/Staff Backend Engineer – remote friendly

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior/Staff Backend Engineer to join their growing engineering team. Our client is building financial infrastructure that serves hundreds of thousands of European SMEs, handling real transactions at scale with zero tolerance for error.

This is a remote-friendly position based in Paris, with flexibility to work from Germany, France, Italy, Serbia, or Spain.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, deploy, and maintain services handling real financial transactions with full production ownership
• Co-own service architecture, resilience, and scalability using Domain-Driven Design principles
• Lead technical design discussions, anticipate risks, and mentor engineers across the team
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives including CI/CD optimization, post-mortem analysis, and knowledge sharing
• Work within squad teams of 5-10 people alongside Product, Design, Frontend, and Mobile engineers
• Monitor production systems, handle incidents methodically, and conduct thorough root cause analysis

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend engineering experience with large-scale web application architecture
• Production experience handling real-world constraints at scale
• Proficiency with backend technologies similar to Go, Ruby, Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and event-driven architecture
• Demonstrated quality-driven approach: writing tests, setting up monitoring, and implementing observability
• Ownership mindset with ability to track impact post-release and proactively improve systems
• Experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams with Product Managers and Designers
• Fluent English communication skills
• Willingness to relocate to or currently residing in Germany, France, Italy, Serbia, or Spain
