Professional Coder I

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential healthcare organization seeking a Professional Coder I to join their revenue cycle team. After a brief onsite onboarding period, this position transitions to fully remote work, with occasional visits for specialized training or projects.

In this role, you will:

• Review professional services documentation across multiple medical specialties and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, procedure, and E/M codes
• Ensure compliance with AMA and CMS coding guidelines and regulations
• Apply knowledge of NCCI edits, LCDs, and correct coding sequences to maintain claim accuracy
• Work within electronic health record and billing platforms to process professional services
• Support clean claim submission and proper reimbursement processes
• Participate in ongoing education and quality assurance activities

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Active coding certification: CPC-A, COC-A, RHIT, or RHIA
• Solid understanding of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer reimbursement programs
• Working knowledge of medical billing systems, NCCI edits, and local coverage determinations
• Proficiency with computer systems, EHRs, and billing platforms
• Strong attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in an academic or teaching healthcare environment
• Additional credentials such as CCA, CPC, or CPC-H (physician-based coding)
• Exposure to diverse medical specialties and coding scenarios

This is a full-time position working 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, 40 hours per week. The role is remote after onboarding, with candidates based in or near Kansas City, Missouri preferred for the initial training period.
