Subject Matter Expert

About This Role

We are representing a confidential EdTech organization that delivers advanced technical training programs. Our talent team is searching for a Subject Matter Expert to help design curriculum for a Forward Deployed Engineering program targeting experienced production engineers.

This is a remote, part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week) based in Spain. You'll collaborate with senior curriculum authors to create hands-on learning experiences for working engineers with 6–15 years of experience who are transitioning into AI deployment and client-facing delivery roles.

Responsibilities

• Design end-to-end student projects including scope, learning objectives, technical infrastructure, environments, and supporting databases or datasets
• Write clear submission guidelines and assessment rubrics that reviewers can apply consistently across cohorts
• Partner with Learning Experience Designers to ensure projects are educationally sound, properly paced, and calibrated for difficulty
• Research and evaluate technical solutions and tooling to keep curriculum aligned with current industry practices
• Support commercial enablement by training sales and marketing teams on course content and graduate capabilities

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 7+ years of professional engineering experience at senior level or above (Senior/Lead/Staff Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, or technical lead on customer-facing delivery)
• Proven track record owning deployments end-to-end in real client or enterprise environments—from initial engagement through production go-live and adoption
• Hands-on experience with databases and infrastructure needed for cloud-based projects (containers, version control, CI/CD)
• Ability to decompose complex technical work into scoped, assessable learning tasks with appropriate difficulty levels
• Excellent written communication skills in English—you'll create substantial instructional content that must be clear and unambiguous
• Comfort working cross-functionally with instructional designers and explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
• Experience mentoring, teaching, tutoring, or conducting code reviews

Preferred:

• Prior EdTech experience or background in rubric/assessment design
