About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential nonprofit organization in the education sector that is seeking a Research Assistant, Test Assembly & Desktop Publishing. Our client develops large-scale English language proficiency assessments and requires meticulous support for test form assembly, layout, and quality assurance across both digital and print formats.
This is a full-time, remote-friendly role based in the United States. Candidates may work fully remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. Please note this position is not available to residents of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Texas, California, or U.S. Territories.
Responsibilities
In this role, you will support the test assembly team by:
- Transferring and laying out test content (text and graphics) in Adobe InDesign using established templates, style guides, WCAG requirements, and print specifications
- Assisting in the creation and maintenance of test booklets, administration scripts, and ancillary materials for both print and computer-based formats
- Preparing and reviewing test blueprints and item inventories to support test form construction
- Collaborating with design staff to implement layout adjustments and minor graphic edits
- Performing systematic quality control reviews of assessment materials to verify accuracy, consistency, and alignment with specifications and accessibility standards
- Reviewing materials using screen reader software to verify alternate text accuracy and document accessibility
- Tracking stakeholder feedback, implementing approved revisions, and maintaining complete revision histories
- Supporting mock test administrations and revising materials based on findings
- Maintaining test item databases and item banks with accuracy and completeness
- Assisting with documentation of internal style guides and test assembly procedures
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and adhering to test security protocols
What We're Looking For
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Education, Applied Linguistics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- At least 2 years of experience contributing to the production of educational or assessment materials
- High proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in a professional or academic setting
- Ability to follow established procedures, templates, and style guides with precision
- Strong attention to detail in high-stakes production environments
- Ability to manage competing priorities and meet firm production deadlines
- Collaborative approach and effective communication across functional teams
- Accuracy working with databases and test item banks
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with standardized educational assessments or operational test production
- Familiarity with screen reader technologies such as JAWS and NVDA
- Knowledge of accessibility standards for print and digital materials (Section 508, WCAG)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organization, planning, and time management abilities
