About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential government technology organization in their search for a Senior AI Developer to lead their ambitious AI transformation initiative. Our client is building AI-powered capabilities from the ground up within their public sector finance platform, and they need an innovative developer who wants to push boundaries while working with exceptional talent.
This is a remote position within the United States, with preference for candidates in the Eastern time zone. You'll own hard technical problems: orchestration patterns that scale under real-world load, developer experiences that enable team velocity, and engineering decisions that transform ambiguous requirements into concrete, operable systems.
Responsibilities
- Platform Ownership: Own the evolution of shared AI components, libraries, and platform capabilities. Set standards for reliability, testability, and developer experience through hands-on delivery.
- AI Feature Development: Design and build AI-powered product features end-to-end, including LLM orchestration, prompt engineering workflows, evaluation, and observability. Carry work from requirements through deployment and iteration.
- Delivery Systems: Design and build CI/CD patterns, deployment pipelines, observability tooling, and developer workflows that make shipping agents to production predictable and repeatable.
- AI Tooling Leadership: Lead the team on AI tooling adoption including coding assistants, agentic development workflows, and evaluation frameworks. Establish patterns that provide real leverage.
- Backend Platform Engineering: Build and optimize core SaaS platform systems including high-scale background processing, scalable APIs, ingestion pipelines, search and discovery, and PostgreSQL performance optimization.
- Technical Vision: Articulate clear engineering direction to team and stakeholders. Translate ambiguous problems into concrete plans and build shared understanding across engineering and product.
- Mentorship: Actively grow engineers around you through technical reviews, establishing best practices, and creating an environment where the team can move quickly with confidence.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of hands-on software development with deep proficiency in at least one modern backend or full-stack language
- Strong understanding of agentic system design: orchestration, tool use, memory, retrieval, evaluation, and agent-to-agent communication
- Hands-on experience with production agentic tooling including orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI), LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Bedrock), vector databases, and evaluation platforms
- Previous experience building scalable multi-tenant SaaS applications ideally in C#, Ruby, Rails, Elixir, Python or similar
- Demonstrated experience delivering production, client-facing agentic solutions end-to-end
- Strong AWS experience (or Azure) with Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, API Gateway, and CloudWatch
- Deep grasp of SaaS architecture principles and system design tradeoffs
- Proven track record building developer platforms and delivery systems including CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and testing frameworks
- Strong background in background processing systems (Redis-backed job queues, schedulers) and high-scale data pipelines
- Solid understanding of PostgreSQL schema design and performance optimization
- Experience designing and operating production REST APIs
- Understanding of Event Driven Development
- Experience with search and discovery systems (full-text, semantic, or vector search)
- Strong understanding of security best practices (auth, data isolation, secrets management)
- Demonstrated AI-first development approach with concrete examples of using LLMs and agentic tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) across daily engineering work
Nice to Have:
- Experience in government technology, public sector, or compliance-heavy domains
