Senior Java Backend Developer (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential IT services organization in Germany that develops critical healthcare solutions. Our talent team is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to join their healthcare-focused engineering team working remotely.

In this role, you'll build robust backend systems for statutory health insurance applications, implementing complex business requirements while maintaining the highest standards for security and performance when handling sensitive patient data.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance modern backend applications using Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
• Design, implement, and integrate REST APIs for healthcare systems
• Translate complex statutory health insurance requirements into technical solutions
• Build performant, maintainable software that meets quality and security standards
• Work with SQL and DB2 for data processing and management
• Analyze, optimize, and evolve existing applications and components
• Create automated tests and ensure software quality throughout the development lifecycle
• Coordinate with business stakeholders, development teams, and project participants
• Produce and maintain technical documentation

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Several years of Java backend development experience with strong Spring/Spring Boot expertise
• Hands-on project experience with BITMARCK 21c ng
• Experience in the statutory health insurance (GKV) environment, ideally with LRB, ELW, or EEL
• Solid knowledge of REST web services, SQL, and DB2
• Proven track record developing secure, reliable software and handling sensitive patient data
• Excellent German language skills, written and spoken (C2 level)

Nice to Have:

• Experience with microservices and container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or OpenShift
• Knowledge of Kafka, Liquibase, and modern testing frameworks
• Familiarity with FHIR or other healthcare standards
• Experience with agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban
