About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential consulting organization seeking a software sourcing and commercial optimization expert to join their IT Value Creation practice. This is a permanent position based in München, with project work typically conducted at client sites during the week and team collaboration on Fridays.

In this role, you'll work directly with enterprise clients to analyze software spend, optimize license structures, and drive significant cost savings through strategic procurement and vendor management.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing software expenditure, license inventories, and contract structures to identify concrete savings opportunities across enterprise software portfolios
  • Prepare and manage complex procurement processes and contract renewals with major enterprise software and SaaS vendors
  • Challenge requirements, user groups, license types, modules, add-ons, and growth assumptions in collaboration with IT, business stakeholders, and program leadership
  • Develop target volumes, licensing models, contract structures, and negotiation strategies for renewals and new procurements
  • Assess license metrics, entitlements, usage rights, edition structures, and contractual mechanisms including minimum commitments, price escalations, true-ups, and audit provisions
  • Translate business and technical requirements into commercially sound sourcing decisions alongside procurement specialists
  • Facilitate workshops, lead stakeholder discussions, and structure decision-making processes across IT, business units, procurement, and management
  • Support implementation of optimization measures such as license downsizing, reharvesting, cleanup of unused entitlements, and edition adjustments
  • Contribute to the development of internal expertise in software sourcing and commercial value creation

What We're Looking For

  • Completed degree in business informatics, business administration, computer science, industrial engineering, or comparable field
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in software procurement, IT vendor management, software asset management, license consulting, IT sourcing, or IT commercial management
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise software and SaaS contracts, particularly renewals, new procurements, contract optimization, or license cleanup initiatives
  • Strong understanding of license metrics, subscriptions, entitlements, usage rights, edition and pricing models, and standard contractual clauses
  • Concrete project experience with at least two major vendor ecosystems from providers such as SAP, Microsoft, Oracle, Salesforce, Adobe, or ServiceNow
  • Ability to critically evaluate requirements and specifications while maintaining focus on underlying business objectives
  • Experience preparing and conducting commercial negotiations and developing robust negotiation strategies
  • Proven track record leading workshops, structuring complex topics, and collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Consulting background welcome; candidates from in-house roles should demonstrate experience with cross-functional projects and complex decision-making environments
  • Fluent German and English, both written and spoken
  • Analytical, structured, and independent working style with strong interpersonal and situational awareness
  • Willingness to take ownership, drive initiatives forward, and implement solutions effectively at client organizations
