Senior Mechanical Engineer – Healthcare Buildings

We are representing a confidential engineering firm seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join their healthcare facilities design practice. Our client specializes in creating innovative mechanical systems for complex healthcare environments, and this role offers the opportunity to lead high-impact projects that directly improve patient care and operational efficiency.

As a senior technical leader, you'll provide expertise in mechanical design, oversee quality assurance processes, and mentor team members on healthcare-specific engineering challenges. This position is ideal for an experienced PE who wants to make a lasting impact in the healthcare infrastructure sector.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and review of mechanical systems for complex healthcare facilities projects
• Apply advanced mechanical engineering concepts to address unique healthcare environment challenges
• Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) to ensure designs meet project objectives and regulatory standards
• Conduct research to inform innovative design solutions that improve patient care and operational efficiency
• Advise and direct staff on mechanical design approaches to meet project requirements and client expectations
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into overall project designs
• Contribute to development of standards and guidelines for mechanical engineering activities

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
• Minimum 8 years of mechanical engineering experience with increasing responsibility, preferably in healthcare facilities design
• Demonstrated expertise in leading complex mechanical design projects and providing technical leadership
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to collaborate effectively within teams
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and enthusiasm for advancing healthcare infrastructure through innovative solutions
• Healthcare-related certifications such as ASHRAE HFDP, ASSE 6060 Medical Gas Systems Designer, or ASSE 12080 Certified Legionella Water Safety & Management Specialist are a plus
• Membership in ASHE or equivalent professional organizations is advantageous
• Experience with National Codes/Standards development and participation in relevant committees is highly preferred
• Healthcare Physical Environment Worker or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) certification is a plus
