About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential health technology client in their search for a Software Engineer to join their remote team across the United States. Our client develops integrated digital platforms that serve millions of users, and they need an experienced backend engineer to help scale their service-oriented architecture.

This is a remote position with required availability during core hours of 10 AM - 3 PM US Mountain Time. You will participate in a rotating on-call schedule approximately one week per rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend microservices in TypeScript and NestJS deployed via AWS ECS, ensuring services are well-designed, scalable, and aligned with service-oriented architecture best practices
  • Design, implement, and document robust RESTful APIs that are secure, efficient, and easy for client teams to integrate
  • Migrate legacy serverless functions from AWS Lambda into containerized services on ECS, refactoring and re-architecting older systems for improved performance and maintainability
  • Collaborate closely with front-end and mobile teams, product managers, and designers to deliver end-to-end features and ensure seamless integration across multiple services
  • Write clean, well-tested code and participate in peer code reviews while maintaining comprehensive unit and integration tests
  • Take ownership of service reliability by monitoring performance, troubleshooting production issues, and participating in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building backend or full-stack applications in a cloud environment
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js with hands-on experience with backend frameworks—NestJS strongly preferred, or similar frameworks like Express/Koa with willingness to learn NestJS
  • Solid knowledge of AWS services and architecture, with experience deploying and running containerized applications in AWS ECS, EKS, or similar
  • Familiarity with microservices, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture
  • Proven experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs with strong understanding of API security and performance
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB, as well as caching mechanisms such as Redis
  • Comfortable with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools such as CloudWatch and Datadog
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a team-oriented mindset
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of microservice design patterns, inter-service communication including REST, gRPC, and message queues
  • Familiarity with AI coding assistants
  • Experience with DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering practices
  • Experience with Stripe and third-party subscription platforms such as Apple App Store or Google Play
