(Senior) Backend Engineer – Investing (f/m/x)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building brokerage infrastructure to democratize investing across Europe. Our client operates as a regulated financial services platform, partnering with banks and wealth managers to deliver seamless capital markets access.

As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Investing domain, you will design and own reliable, scalable backend services that power securities trading, portfolio management, and regulatory compliance systems. You'll work across the full investment lifecycle: market data, order execution, clearing and settlement, tax reporting, corporate actions, and transaction monitoring.

This is a hybrid role based in Germany, working with a cross-functional team to build systems that serve institutional and retail investment workflows at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services for brokerage API infrastructure using Python, FastAPI, AWS, and PostgreSQL
• Own systems across the securities lifecycle including instruments, orders, trades, positions, settlements, and regulatory reporting
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver secure, resilient order workflows including batch trading, transfers, and market abuse screening
• Make architectural decisions that impact core platform development and business outcomes
• Write high-quality, maintainable, well-tested code and guide other engineers through code reviews
• Take end-to-end ownership in a cross-functional environment with minimal supervision
• Scale existing systems while advocating for engineering best practices

What We're Looking For

• Strong experience writing well-structured, maintainable code in modern programming languages (Python, Go, Java, Ruby, JavaScript, or TypeScript); willingness to work in Python
• Proven track record designing and implementing highly scalable REST APIs and backend systems
• Solid experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and cloud-native architectural patterns
• Good understanding of relational or document-based databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL
• Experience building and operating reliable, scalable backend systems as part of cross-functional teams
• Product-minded engineering approach: excited to solve customer problems and become a domain expert
• Ability to take ownership decisively, with focus and attention to detail
• Team player who enjoys knowledge sharing, mentorship, and collaborative problem-solving
• Comfort working in lean, fast-paced startup environments with small teams
• Prior fintech or financial services experience is a plus but not required
