Software Engineer, Platform

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential text-to-speech technology company serving over 50 million users globally. Our client operates as a fully distributed organization with team members working remotely across multiple continents. We're seeking a Software Engineer to join their Platform team, which owns the critical backend infrastructure powering their entire product suite across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and web.

This role is based in Germany and offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes systems where precision and reliability are non-negotiable. You'll own APIs that handle payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and a public-facing TTS API with external customers depending on your uptime and performance.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own backend APIs for payments, subscriptions, authentication, consumption tracking, and public-facing services
• Take ownership of existing services and improve their performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability
• Establish correctness verification before deployment and implement automated checks to maintain system integrity
• Automate routine aspects of your role to free capacity for higher-impact work
• Create reusable patterns and documentation that enable the entire team to repeat your successful approaches
• Design and implement B2B and enterprise integrations for external customers building on the platform
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to ensure backend architecture stays ahead of product roadmap needs
• Maintain consistent subscription state across multiple client platforms and app-store billing systems
• Ensure exact consumption metering that supports billing at high request volumes

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Proven backend development experience with TypeScript and Node.js
• Direct hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or another major cloud provider
• Track record of delegating and systematizing work you previously owned, with demonstrated impact from the capacity this created
• Active daily use of AI agents in your workflow — you should be able to describe in detail what runs unattended, what requires your review, and where you've set boundaries
• Instinct to verify results against actual system state (logs, database records, live requests) rather than relying on summaries
• Strong judgment about what not to build, with ability to articulate why certain approaches were rejected
• Preference for being corrected over being right

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments
• Experience deploying high-availability applications on Kubernetes

Interview process: Several technical interviews plus a two-stage take-home assessment on a real codebase. You'll submit your work, receive detailed feedback from an engineer on the team, and have the opportunity to iterate based on that feedback. The entire process typically completes within one week.

Pay
