Senior/Tech Lead Backend Engineer (Managed Kubernetes)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential cloud infrastructure organization seeking a Senior/Tech Lead Backend Engineer for their Managed Kubernetes team in Berlin. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you will both write code and guide a team of engineers.

In this position, you will:

• Lead by example as an individual contributor, spending significant time writing and reviewing code, leading technical projects, and participating in on-call rotation and incident response
• Manage a team of 4–8 mid-to-senior engineers, providing technical context, coaching, and regular feedback to support their growth
• Maintain the technical vision for the core Kubernetes service platform, including API design, control plane architecture, cluster autoscaling, and platform integrations
• Collaborate with Product Management to shape product roadmap and technical strategy
• Drive large-scale technical outcomes such as optimizing control planes for tens of thousands of nodes, integrating advanced autoscaling approaches, and delivering Kubernetes-native infrastructure features

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 8+ years of professional software engineering or engineering management experience
• Expert-level knowledge of Golang, or demonstrated ability to quickly become proficient in this language
• Proven track record leading multi-month technical projects from conception to delivery
• Experience tech leading and mentoring engineers on complex systems
• Strong systems design and architecture skills for distributed platforms

Highly valued experience:

• Direct people management experience leading engineering teams
• Kubernetes administration and operations at scale
• Development of Kubernetes controllers and operators
• Building control planes for infrastructure platforms
