Our talent team at Get A Job.ai is representing a confidential diagnostic testing organization in their search for a Director of Data Science and Bioinformatics. This is a remote position based in the USA.

Our client is seeking an experienced leader to build and scale the bioinformatics capability within their data science development organization. You will establish cloud infrastructure, implement quality frameworks, and lead a team supporting genomic algorithm development for clinical products in women's health and organ health domains.

Responsibilities

• Build and define the bioinformatics function within the data science development team, identifying technical gaps and executing a strategic roadmap for genomics-based algorithm advancement
• Establish and enforce pipeline and algorithm quality standards, including review processes, validation frameworks, and comprehensive documentation practices
• Architect and own scalable AWS-based infrastructure for data science and bioinformatics workloads, ensuring quality, reproducibility, and reliable deployment of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) algorithms
• Implement MLOps tooling and automated validation frameworks to support deployment of algorithms into clinical production environments
• Partner with research, product development, laboratory operations, engineering, and quality teams to implement stable, scalable pipelines supporting successful productization
• Lead, mentor, and hire a high-performing team of bioinformaticians and data scientists, establishing technical quality standards and operational ownership
• Build technical depth within the team to support expanding product roadmaps across multiple therapeutic areas

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• Master of Science or Ph.D. in a quantitative technical discipline (Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or equivalent)
• Minimum 10 years of experience in data science or bioinformatics
• At least 5 years of direct people management experience leading technical teams
• Hands-on experience architecting AWS cloud infrastructure for data-intensive bioinformatics workloads and NGS pipeline execution
• Demonstrated ability to identify capability gaps independently, build scalable infrastructure, and drive execution without waiting for formal structure
• Strong cross-functional communication skills with ability to build alignment across research, engineering, and quality organizations through technical clarity and data-driven reasoning
• Track record of developing bioinformatics talent and delivering computational pipelines that support commercial product development

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing software and pipelines within regulated environments (CLIA, FDA, or ISO frameworks)
• Experience with MLOps frameworks and pipeline tools such as MLflow, Nextflow, WDL, or Docker
• Advanced knowledge of statistical inference, machine learning, and genomic data processing

Pay

Pay via Get A Job.ai: $186,300–$232,900 USD. Actual compensation will be determined based on your skills, experience depth, certifications, and location-specific cost of labor considerations.
