AWS DevOps Engineer (Freelancer)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AWS modernization consultancy in a search for a freelance AWS DevOps Engineer to support infrastructure modernization engagements. Our client works with enterprise customers moving legacy workloads to AWS—replacing manual processes with infrastructure-as-code, building reliable CI/CD pipelines, and making production systems boring to operate.

This is a remote, project-based role based in the USA. You'll work hands-on with customer deployments: Terraform, CloudFormation, container orchestration, and monitoring automation for enterprise applications and big data platforms. The work is client-facing—you'll own delivery timelines and carry production responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation
• Manage application configuration and enforce Infrastructure as Code practices across deployment tooling
• Own the build and release cycle for customer modernization projects
• Deploy releases and handle operations and maintenance activities in coordination with engagement teams
• Improve and maintain operations infrastructure: CI/CD tooling, monitoring solutions, and metrics platforms
• Provide operational support for engineering teams and migrate legacy infrastructure to AWS
• Establish monitoring, automated health checks, and operational best practices
• Build scalable infrastructure for data platforms including EMR, Redshift, and SageMaker
• Guide teams in DevOps practices and contribute to CI pipeline evolution

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 4+ years of hands-on Terraform experience for infrastructure as code
• 4+ years of configuration management and engineering for large-scale environments, ideally supporting Agile development
• 4+ years of Linux or Windows systems administration
• 4+ years working with Git, including branching and merging strategies
• 2+ years working with AWS infrastructure and platform services
• 2+ years with cloud automation tools such as Ansible or Chef
• Exposure to container services on AWS: Kubernetes, ECS, EKS
• A proactive mindset for reliability improvements and the discipline to follow through

Preferred:

• Multi-cloud experience across AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
• AWS Solutions Architect certification (Associate or Professional)
• AWS DevOps Professional certification
