Senior Software Engineer – Mobile Development (iOS)

We're seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with specialized expertise in iOS mobile development to join the City of Philadelphia's Office of Innovation & Technology. This is a full-time position based in Philadelphia, PA, where you'll design, develop, and maintain high-impact mobile applications that serve residents across our city.

About This Position

As a Senior Software Engineer focused on iOS development, you'll lead the architecture and implementation of native mobile applications that directly impact thousands of Philadelphians. This role requires deep iOS expertise combined with the ability to mentor junior developers, establish engineering standards, and collaborate effectively across product and design teams.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design and build native iOS applications using Swift and modern development frameworks
• Lead code reviews and establish quality standards for mobile development across the team
• Collaborate with product managers, backend engineers, and UX designers to define requirements and deliver user-centered mobile solutions
• Develop and maintain robust API integrations and data layers for seamless app experiences
• Optimize application performance, battery efficiency, and memory usage across supported iOS devices
• Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code reliability and maintainability
• Mentor junior team members and provide technical guidance on iOS development practices
• Debug complex issues and implement scalable solutions that support diverse user bases
• Participate in architectural decisions and technology evaluations for the mobile roadmap

Requirements

• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 4 years in native iOS development
• Advanced proficiency in Swift and Objective-C
• Deep understanding of iOS architecture, design patterns, and the complete app lifecycle
• Proven track record building and shipping production iOS applications
• Strong skills in writing clean, testable, maintainable code
• Experience integrating with REST APIs and working with JSON and other data formats
• Familiarity with version control, continuous integration, and modern development workflows
• Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience mentoring or leading engineers
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience
