Distributed Systems Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a well-funded startup in the blockchain infrastructure space that is building cutting-edge zero-knowledge proof systems. Our client is developing performant zkVM frameworks and rollup solutions that enable verifiable computation for smart contract applications. This is a high-impact role where you'll architect and build production distributed systems that form the backbone of their on-chain products.

The position is based in the USA with a strong preference for NYC-based candidates, though remote arrangements will be considered for exceptional engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement Rust-based rollup nodes and sequencers for zero-knowledge proof systems
• Build secure and efficient distributed systems that deliver blockchain products to production
• Deploy and monitor high-availability applications using modern cloud orchestration tools (Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes)
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions that balance rapid development velocity with security requirements
• Work within and contribute to large production codebases while maintaining high code quality standards
• Collaborate with a small, highly technical team on blockchain protocol design and implementation

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Fluency in Rust, C++, or similar performant backend languages (team primarily uses Rust)
• Proven experience deploying and monitoring production applications with high uptime requirements
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes)
• Track record of working within large production codebases
• Exceptional attention to detail with a security-first mindset
• Clear communication skills and collaborative working style
• Bias toward action and strong work ethic

Bonus Qualifications:

• Experience with blockchain node implementations (Geth, Reth, or similar)
• Deep knowledge of Ethereum's low-level technical details
• Background in adversarial or security-critical environments
