About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join their engineering team in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is a hands-on role with genuine autonomy over CI/CD pipelines, automated guardrails, and migration strategies. You'll work embedded within engineering teams, optimizing delivery across their infrastructure while serving as a key stakeholder in shaping and rolling out their new Kubernetes platform.

This isn't a ticket-pushing role—you'll have real impact on how engineering safely and rapidly ships value to production, driving the modernization of deployment and scaling practices.

Responsibilities

Platform Stability & BAU:

  • Utilize and contribute to Ansible-based deployment automation to facilitate seamless product feature releases
  • Monitor application-level health within the cluster and collaborate on incident response
  • Drive post-mortems for engineering-led deployments
  • Maintain clear documentation, deployment runbooks, and developer self-service guides

Kubernetes Platform Development:

  • Represent engineering as a key stakeholder in platform design, shaping self-service workflows, guardrails, and standards
  • Contribute requirements for Kubernetes primitives (Gateway API, RBAC, admission controllers, resource policies)
  • Standardize application-level configurations for ingress, RBAC, namespacing strategy, and secrets management
  • Drive phased application migrations, partnering with teams to containerize and migrate existing workloads
  • Build robust CI/CD workflows for Kubernetes-based deployments using tools like Helm, Kustomize, or ArgoCD
  • Implement application observability with metrics, logging, and alerting to ensure workload health visibility
  • Create comprehensive developer self-service documentation and manifest templates

What We're Looking For

Must-Have Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to collaborate across technical teams and leadership
  • Strong, demonstrable experience with Ansible (roles, inventories, vault, idempotency)
  • Comfort with Docker and Docker Compose in production environments
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals
  • Strong scripting ability in Bash and Python
  • Experience with GitOps tooling such as ArgoCD or Flux
  • Experience with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, Alertmanager or equivalent)
  • Ability to think creatively within constraints and plan pragmatically—delivering iteratively with existing infrastructure while roadmapping toward ideal state
  • Methodical, security-conscious approach

Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity with Helm chart authoring and management
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform
  • Experience with secrets management tooling (HashiCorp Vault, Sealed Secrets, External Secrets Operator)
  • Prior experience balancing greenfield work alongside BAU responsibilities

The Right Mindset:

  • Comfortable being the go-to person for engineering teams during incidents, but pragmatic about prioritization
  • Able to hold your own in conversations with software engineers, network engineers, and senior leadership
  • Treat documentation as part of the job, not an afterthought—you write runbooks and create diagrams
  • Have opinions about best practices but know when to choose the right tool versus the perfect tool
  • Demonstrate initiative and autonomously drive outcomes rather than waiting for direction
