(Senior) Project Engineer – Technische Projektplanung (m/w/d) – PV & BESS Utility Scale

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential renewable energy organization that is actively scaling its utility-scale solar and battery storage portfolio across Germany. Our talent team is seeking a (Senior) Project Engineer - Technical Project Planning (m/f/d) – PV & BESS Utility Scale to join their technical planning function.

This role is based in one of the following German cities: München, Hamburg, Traunstein, Berlin, or Frankfurt. Hybrid work arrangements are available.

As an experienced project engineer, you will take ownership of technical planning for utility-scale photovoltaic and battery energy storage systems from development through commissioning, ensuring projects are technically sound, economically optimized, and ready for construction.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical planning for utility-scale PV plants with battery storage systems from project development through commissioning
• Create, review, and approve planning documentation for PV and BESS installations
• Optimize plant designs considering yield, CAPEX, OPEX, constructability, and operational efficiency
• Evaluate new technologies, components, and system solutions for technical and economic viability
• Provide technical expertise to project teams during tendering, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases
• Support the continuous improvement of engineering standards, design guidelines, and best practices
• Conduct technical reviews, plausibility checks, and quality audits; analyze root causes and derive sustainable improvement measures
• After onboarding, potentially assume technical leadership of internal planning teams and manage external engineering consultants

What We're Looking For

• University degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering, renewable energy, industrial engineering, or comparable qualification
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in technical planning of utility-scale PV projects in the MW range
• Exposure to utility-scale BESS systems is a strong plus
• Strong understanding of DC and AC plant design, relevant standards, guidelines, and grid connection requirements
• Proficiency with planning and simulation software such as PVsyst, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, PVcase, or comparable tools
• Analytical, structured work style with high quality consciousness
• Experience in technical leadership of internal teams and/or managing external engineering firms is a plus
• Experience developing standards, design guidelines, and quality requirements is beneficial
• Fluent German and good English (written and spoken)
• Confident user of Microsoft 365
