Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Embedded Linux Platform (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology organization developing autonomous systems for critical infrastructure protection. Our talent team is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to own the Linux platform domain of a next-generation mission computer built on modern heterogeneous multi-core Arm architecture.

This role is based in Munich, Germany and requires existing work authorization in Germany.

Responsibilities

• Own the embedded Linux platform on application cores: Yocto-based BSP, kernel configuration, device trees, and board-specific drivers
• Build onboard capabilities including camera and video pipeline, hardware-accelerated vision components, telemetry, and integration interfaces for guidance and mission payloads
• Implement inter-processor communication between Linux and real-time domains, including health monitoring, time synchronization, and watchdog strategies
• Deliver fleet-ready platform features: secure boot chain, signed image updates, system hardening, and deterministic boot sequences
• Establish CI pipelines with automated on-target testing and hardware-in-the-loop testing rigs
• Support integration and field-test campaigns alongside hardware teams
• Collaborate with SoC vendor BSPs and internal hardware engineers during board bring-up and debugging
• Mentor engineering teams on Linux platform topics and establish maintainable platform practices

What We're Looking For

• Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or comparable qualification
• 5+ years of professional embedded Linux experience with Yocto or Buildroot, kernel and device-tree work, driver development, and debugging on Arm SoCs
• Strong C/C++ skills; Python for tooling and test automation
• Hands-on experience with heterogeneous multi-core SoCs and understanding of RTOS environments for designing clean contracts between domains
• Practical experience with camera/video pipelines (V4L2, GStreamer)
• Comfortable working in lab environments: reading schematics, using oscilloscopes and analyzers during bring-up
• Pragmatic platform thinker who takes ownership and builds for long-term maintainability
• Fluent in English; German is beneficial
• Must have valid work authorization for Germany — visa sponsorship is not available

Strong plus: ISP tuning, ML deployment on embedded accelerators (vendor NPU SDKs, TensorRT-class toolchains), secure boot and embedded security hardening, UAV flight stacks or companion-computer setups (PX4, ArduPilot, MAVLink).
