Part-Time Faculty 2D Animation Instructor

Montgomery College seeks a passionate 2D Animation Instructor to teach part-time animation courses at our Maryland location in Montgomery County. In this faculty role, you'll introduce students to the principles and tools of digital and traditional 2D animation, guiding the next generation of creative professionals.

About the Role

As a part-time faculty member at MC, you'll design and deliver engaging 2D animation courses, from foundational concepts to advanced techniques. This is an opportunity to shape learners' artistic vision and technical skills in a supportive community college environment, helping students build portfolios and pursue careers in animation, motion graphics, visual effects, and related creative fields.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Plan and teach 2D animation courses, including lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on studio sessions
• Create or adapt curriculum materials, assignments, and projects aligned with industry standards
• Evaluate student work and provide constructive feedback on animation techniques and artistic growth
• Hold office hours and mentor students individually on animation fundamentals and career development
• Collaborate with colleagues in fine arts, digital media, and other academic programs
• Stay current with animation software, industry trends, and best practices in digital art

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in 2D animation through a professional or educational portfolio
• Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Adobe Animate, Toon Boom, Procreate, or similar animation tools
• Strong grasp of animation fundamentals including timing, spacing, keyframing, and character movement
• Bachelor's degree in animation, fine arts, digital media, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Excellent communication skills and ability to teach diverse learners effectively
• Experience teaching animation, art, or related subjects is preferred
