As an Employment Specialist with Community Housing Innovations, you'll work at the intersection of housing stability and employment success. You'll support CHI's mission to help families and individuals achieve self-sufficiency by connecting them with jobs that match their skills, goals, and circumstances. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on people's lives as they build careers and move toward long-term stability.
What You'll Do
- Assess clients' employment readiness, skills, work history, and career interests through one-on-one consultations
- Develop personalized employment plans and career pathways aligned with each client's strengths and goals
- Provide job search coaching, interview preparation, and resume development support
- Identify and cultivate relationships with employers and community partners to expand job placement opportunities
- Track client progress, maintain detailed case notes, and report on employment outcomes and program metrics
- Coordinate referrals to training programs, certifications, and other supportive services as needed
- Participate in community outreach and represent CHI at employment-focused events
What We're Looking For
- Experience in employment services, job coaching, career counseling, or human services work
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations, including those facing economic barriers
- Knowledge of local job market resources, training programs, and employment pathways in Queens and the wider New York area
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Organizational ability and comfort managing multiple clients and priorities
- Commitment to CHI's mission of reducing poverty and supporting housing stability
