Part-Time SSA – YWCA – (5424)

PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) seeks a Safety Support Associate to join our Interim Housing team at the YWCA location in Los Angeles, CA. This part-time position, Friday and Saturday 7:00am–3:30pm, lets you make a direct impact supporting people experiencing homelessness while building housing stability in Los Angeles County.

About the Role

In this Safety Support Associate role, you'll maintain a secure and welcoming interim housing environment by engaging residents, monitoring facilities, and responding to safety concerns. Working alongside case managers and security partners, you'll use observation and de-escalation skills to prevent and address issues while building rapport with the people you serve.

What You'll Do

• Conduct regular facility and grounds monitoring, documenting and reporting safety concerns
• Engage residents to encourage their participation in maintaining community safety
• Coordinate with case management and security teams to address safety and support needs
• Respond to crisis situations using non-violent crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation techniques
• Assist in developing safety procedures, forms, and documentation for the interim housing site
• Prepare incident reports and safety-related correspondence as requested
• Participate in safety and operations meetings to provide feedback and input

• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, residents, and community partners
• Clear communication skills, both verbal and written
• Proactive approach to problem-solving and taking initiative
• Sound judgment and ethical reasoning when handling sensitive situations
• Professional integrity and commitment to maintaining appropriate boundaries
• Preferred: One year of experience working with vulnerable populations, in security roles, or in de-escalation and crisis intervention

Minimum Requirements

• Current U.S. employment authorization
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Pass tuberculosis test, background screening, and drug screening
• All education and experience levels welcome
