Part-Time Safety Support Associate – Interim Housing (JR 5556)

PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) is hiring a Part-Time Safety Support Associate for our interim housing facility in Long Beach, California (JR 5556). Working weekends, you'll help create a secure environment where unhoused individuals can stabilize their lives and transition to permanent housing.

About the Role

As a Safety Support Associate, you'll play a vital role in maintaining safe, welcoming interim housing facilities where vulnerable populations receive support on their path to stable living. In this part-time, weekend position, you'll combine observation and interpersonal skills to prevent conflicts, respond to crises, and support residents' progress. This role bridges security and supportive services, requiring both vigilance and genuine compassion for the people we serve.

What You'll Do

• Conduct regular facility and grounds rounds, identifying and reporting maintenance, safety, or security concerns
• Monitor the interim housing environment using observation techniques and non-violent crisis intervention strategies
• Collaborate with case management staff to coordinate participant support and safety initiatives
• Apply de-escalation and verbal intervention techniques to resolve conflicts and prevent crises
• Build rapport with residents, encouraging participation in maintaining a safe, respectful community
• Coordinate with contracted security partners as needed to ensure site safety
• Document incidents and safety observations in required reports
• Attend team meetings and contribute feedback on safety and program operations

What We're Looking For

• Strong communication skills—the ability to speak and write clearly when reporting concerns or engaging with participants
• Attention to detail and the ability to identify patterns or emerging issues in a busy environment
• Teamwork mentality and willingness to collaborate across departments to solve problems
• Proactive mindset—comfort taking initiative, making decisions, and handling unexpected situations
• Sound judgment, ethical standards, and professional boundaries in all interactions
• Preferred: One year of experience working with vulnerable populations, in security roles, or with de-escalation and crisis intervention training
• Mandatory: Employment eligibility verification; CPR/First Aid training (obtain if needed); TB test, background screening, and drug screening as conditions of employment
