Iceland Internship (Environmental Science)

As an Environmental Science Intern with Global Treks and Adventures in Hartford, Connecticut, you'll conduct immersive field research across Reykjavik and south Iceland, contributing to publications and digital content about the region's natural and cultural landscape. This full-time internship offers hands-on experience combining field research, content creation, and digital media development.

About the Role

This internship blends traditional scientific fieldwork with contemporary digital storytelling. You'll work alongside experienced researchers, naturalist guides, and cultural experts to develop materials that showcase Iceland's ecosystems, outdoor recreation opportunities, and cultural heritage.

What You'll Do

• Conduct field research in Reykjavik and throughout south Iceland, collecting data on environmental conditions, ecosystems, and cultural sites
• Contribute to developing Iceland's first hiking trails magazine, researching and writing short-form stories that capture the region's natural environment and cultural heritage
• Assist in creating a naturalist guide and cultural guide website/web-app showcasing Reykjavik and south Iceland for tourism and education purposes
• Support data collection, documentation, and analysis as part of the expedition's research goals
• Collaborate with guides, researchers, and cultural experts to ensure accuracy and depth in published materials

What We're Looking For

• Current or recent student pursuing a degree in environmental science, ecology, geology, biology, or related field
• Strong interest in Iceland's natural environment, conservation, and sustainable tourism
• Solid writing and communication skills, with ability to translate research into engaging content
• Comfort working in outdoor, field-based conditions in varied weather
• Ability to work collaboratively with expedition team members and guides
• Enthusiasm for travel, cultural exchange, and hands-on environmental research
