About This Position
This is a full-time nursing role on the orthopedic unit at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Saint Louis County. You'll work night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with varying schedules including every third weekend and holiday coverage requirements. With no on-call responsibilities, this position offers predictable hours and mentorship as you transition from graduate nurse to experienced clinician, caring for orthopedic surgery patients during their recovery and post-operative periods.
Your Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to orthopedic patients in the post-operative and acute recovery phases
- Perform patient assessments, vital sign monitoring, and clinical observation based on patient acuity
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and clinical protocols
- Document patient information, care delivered, and clinical changes in the medical record
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team—surgeons, therapists, and support staff—to coordinate comprehensive patient care
- Support patient and family education on mobility, pain management, wound care, and discharge planning
- Communicate effectively with the nursing team to prioritize and manage patient needs during night shift
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor degree in nursing)
- Eligibility to practice as a registered nurse as determined by your state board of nursing
- Ability to work full-time night shifts, including weekends and holidays
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and patient care skills
- Commitment to teamwork and continuous professional development
