Clinical Laboratory Technican – Core Lab

Labcorp is hiring a Full‑Time Clinical Laboratory Technican - Core Lab for its Birmingham, Jefferson County facility.

About the Role

This position supports the core laboratory at UAB St. Vincent's East, processing patient specimens and performing a range of diagnostic tests that help physicians make informed care decisions. The schedule runs Monday‑Friday, 6:00 AM‑2:30 PM with rotating weekend and holiday coverage.

What You'll Do

• Evaluate incoming specimens for acceptability based on established criteria and reject or flag unsuitable samples.
• Execute routine and complex analytical procedures in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and microbiology following departmental standard operating procedures.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instrumentation, troubleshooting issues as they arise.
• Record and verify test results in the laboratory information system, ensuring data integrity and timely release.
• Perform quality control checks, participate in proficiency testing, and document all QC activities.
• Adhere to safety protocols, handle biohazardous materials correctly, and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Collaborate with technologists, pathologists, and nursing staff to resolve discrepancies and communicate critical values.
• Participate in training new staff and contribute to process improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For

• Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field (or equivalent military training).
• Current MLT or MLS certification (ASCP, AMT, or comparable) preferred.
• Previous experience in a high‑volume clinical laboratory setting, preferably within a core lab environment.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety regulations, CLIA requirements, and standard operating procedures.
• Proficiency with laboratory analyzers and LIS platforms; ability to learn new technologies quickly.
• Excellent attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the capacity to multitask under shifting priorities.
• Effective communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset.
• Willingness to work rotating weekends and holidays as required by the shift schedule.
