About the Role

As Criminal Justice Policy Counsel, you will serve as a key legal advisor to State of Ohio leadership, bringing analytical rigor and legal expertise to the design, evaluation, and implementation of criminal justice policies. You will combine your knowledge of state law, criminal procedure, and policy mechanisms to help shape effective, lawful approaches to the state's most pressing criminal justice challenges.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze criminal justice legislation, regulations, and case law to identify legal risks, opportunities, and implications for state policy
  • Develop comprehensive legal memoranda and policy briefs on criminal justice topics for senior leadership and stakeholders
  • Advise on the constitutional and statutory foundations of proposed criminal justice initiatives
  • Collaborate across state agencies to ensure criminal justice policies align with legal requirements and best practices
  • Research emerging criminal justice issues and trends to inform proactive policy development
  • Support the review and drafting of criminal justice-related legislation and administrative rules

What We're Looking For

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
  • Bar admission required within the first six months of employment; must maintain active good standing status throughout your tenure
  • Demonstrated knowledge of criminal law, criminal procedure, and state policy development
  • Strong legal research and writing skills with the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly
  • Ability to work collaboratively with government agencies, legal teams, and policy stakeholders
