Hagerty Consulting, Inc. is hiring a full-time Independent Contractor for its Recovery Division, based in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi — joining the firm widely recognized as the country's foremost emergency management and homeland security consulting practice.
About the Role
This full-time Independent Contractor position sits within Hagerty's Recovery Division, where consultants are deployed to support state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) clients navigating the complex landscape of disaster recovery. Working on-site in the Jackson, Hinds County area, you will help communities rebuild strategically, compliantly, and sustainably following major disaster events.
What You'll Do
- Support disaster recovery program implementation for government clients, including coordination with federal agencies such as FEMA
- Assist with grant management activities, including eligibility determinations, documentation review, and compliance monitoring
- Develop, review, and refine recovery plans, policies, and standard operating procedures tailored to client needs
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions and coordinate across multiple government entities and community partners
- Prepare technical reports, project worksheets, and deliverables that meet federal program requirements
- Identify programmatic risks and recommend corrective actions to keep recovery timelines on track
- Contribute subject-matter expertise to support client preparedness and long-term recovery capability building
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in emergency management, disaster recovery, or homeland security — ideally within a consulting, government, or nonprofit setting
- Familiarity with federal disaster recovery programs (e.g., FEMA Public Assistance, CDBG-DR, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program) strongly preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear client guidance
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and thrive in dynamic, high-stakes environments
- Experience working with SLTT government clients is a plus
- Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public administration, planning, or a related field preferred
