Workday Financial Systems Architect

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential medical technology organization seeking a Workday Financial Systems Architect to take technical ownership of their Workday Financials implementation. This is a senior individual contributor role where you'll own the tenant like a production system—not an administrator position working from a ticket queue.

Our client is going live with Workday Financials in November 2026 across three entities in Germany, the US, and Italy. You'll join during hypercare and the first closes, with year-end close and statutory audit ahead. This role requires deep Workday expertise, systems thinking, and the ability to bridge technical configuration with finance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Own the Workday Financials tenant technically across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking & Settlement, security model, and financial data model
• Take over from the implementation partner: review, document, and harden delivered configuration, close gaps, and bring run responsibility in-house post-go-live
• Design and build all Workday-side integrations including EIBs, Core Connectors, Studio integrations, web services, and RaaS reports; collaborate with data platform engineers on interface contracts
• Translate accounting and finance requirements into system design; advise stakeholders on what Workday can and cannot do and where in the landscape problems are best solved
• Run the tenant like a production system: tier 2/3 support with root-cause analysis, testing discipline (unit, regression, UAT), manage bi-annual Workday releases, and maintain configuration documentation
• Build reports, dashboards, and calculated fields for finance and leadership; enable self-service where possible
• Serve as technical expert for future expansions including HCM, treasury, automated VAT reporting, and global payroll
• Enable accounting stream leads who handle first-line support questions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• 5+ years hands-on Workday Financials experience including at least one full implementation and post-go-live ownership of a tenant (hypercare, first closes, releases)
• Deep configuration expertise in core modules: GL, AP, AR, Banking & Settlement, business process framework, configurable security, and financial data model (FDM, worktags)
• Strong reporting skills: custom and matrix reports, calculated fields, and BIRT
• Systems thinking with experience connecting SaaS business systems (APIs, integration patterns) and designing end-to-end processes across tools
• Accounting understanding: chart of accounts, period close, reconciliations, and audit requirements
• Engineering mindset with structured troubleshooting, disciplined testing, and clear documentation practices
• Excellent English communication skills—precise with engineers, clear with finance colleagues
• Based in or willing to relocate to Berlin, Germany

Preferred qualifications:

• Hands-on experience with Workday integration tooling: EIBs, Core Connectors, Studio, web services, RaaS, and XSLT
• German language proficiency
• Workday Pro certification in Financials or Integrations
• Multi-entity, multi-currency, or multi-GAAP experience (IFRS alongside local GAAP)
• Experience with tax and e-invoicing platforms
• Familiarity with Accounting Center, Prism Analytics, Extend, or Orchestrate
• Workday consulting or Center of Excellence background
• Formal accounting background or experience with internal controls and SOX in a Workday context
