Merck is seeking a driven Virology (HIV) Regional Medical Scientific Director (MSL) based in Springfield, Sangamon County, to serve as a trusted scientific partner across Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. This full-time field-based role bridges cutting-edge HIV research and the clinical community advancing patient care.

About the Role

As a Regional Medical Scientific Director focused on virology and HIV, you will represent Merck as a peer-level scientific expert to healthcare professionals, researchers, and institutions throughout the assigned region. You will translate the latest clinical and scientific evidence into meaningful dialogue that supports the prevention and treatment of HIV, helping connect innovative health solutions with the providers and patients who benefit from them.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and nurture relationships with key opinion leaders and healthcare providers across Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
• Communicate current virology and HIV scientific data accurately, balancing clinical and educational exchange.
• Gather and relay field insights to internal medical and research teams to inform strategy.
• Support investigator interactions and respond to unsolicited scientific inquiries in compliance with company standards.
• Stay current on the evolving HIV treatment and prevention landscape, including emerging clinical evidence.

Qualifications

• An advanced scientific or clinical degree (such as MD, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent) is typically expected for a Medical Scientific Director role.
• Deep knowledge of virology, with specific expertise in HIV prevention and therapeutics.
• Strong ability to interpret and discuss complex clinical research with expert audiences.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building, and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to travel regularly across the multi-state territory.
