UVC Partners: Data & AI – Master Thesis / Internship (f/m/x)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a leading European early-stage venture capital firm focused on B2B technology investments. Our client operates at the intersection of applied research and investment intelligence, building sophisticated data infrastructure to support high-stakes investment decisions.

This is a Master's thesis or internship position within a specialized team working on AI and data engineering problems with real-world impact. You'll work alongside investors, AI researchers, and engineers on research that directly influences fund operations. This is not a typical internship—you'll own a research question from literature review through working prototype, presenting findings to decision-makers.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of a research question from initial exploration through implementation and presentation
• Build working prototypes using graph ML, LLM tooling, or probabilistic modeling frameworks
• Work with proprietary venture capital datasets to extract investment intelligence
• Collaborate with investors and technical team members on applied research problems
• Present technical work and findings to stakeholders who make investment decisions
• Contribute to the team's AI-powered development practices and tooling
• Participate in defining research scope and approach based on your background and project evolution

What We're Looking For

• Currently enrolled in a Master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field at a recognized university
• Depth or strong ambition in at least one relevant area: graph ML and graph databases (PyTorch Geometric), LLM tooling and evaluation, or probabilistic modeling (PyMC, NumPyro)
• Clean, modular Python coding skills with solid machine learning and statistics fundamentals
• Fluency with AI-assisted coding tools and critical judgment about their strengths, limitations, and failure modes—you review everything they produce
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and drive projects where you set direction yourself
• Fluent technical English for work, writing, and presentations (German helpful but not required)
• Experience taking research from concept to working implementation
• Understanding that AI assistance is a craft requiring knowing which problems to delegate, where tools fail quietly, and how to review generated output

Potential research directions include: Graph Neural Networks for relationship-structured data, Program-aided Language Models for accurate financial computation, or Bayesian updating frameworks for evolving company intelligence. Your thesis would focus on one area while contributing across several as a team member.

Academic supervision: For TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology students, direct supervision can be arranged. Candidates from other universities should arrange their own supervision.

Pay
