Senior Platform Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential enterprise SaaS organization seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join their Manchester-based team. Our client is building next-generation cloud infrastructure that powers critical business applications at global scale. This is an opportunity to work on challenging distributed systems problems with a team that values technical excellence and operational rigor.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will design and build platform capabilities that internal engineering teams rely on to deliver product features. Your work will focus on:

• Designing and implementing Kubernetes operators using Kubebuilder or Operator SDK to automate complex application lifecycle management
• Building custom controllers and reconciliation loops that extend the Kubernetes API
• Engineering scalable microservices using Go, Rust, Java, or Kotlin for high-concurrency, low-latency environments
• Architecting storage and persistence solutions across hybrid cloud environments (public cloud and private data centers)
• Implementing comprehensive observability using OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana for distributed tracing and root-cause analysis
• Ensuring platform reliability, extensibility, and maintainability while abstracting complexity from product teams

What We're Looking For

Required Experience and Skills:

• 10+ years of experience building and operating production-grade SaaS products at scale
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional platform engineering experience
• Advanced proficiency in Java and Rust programming
• Deep expertise with Kubernetes, including writing custom operators and working with CRDs
• Hands-on experience with cloud storage technologies: S3, NFS, NetApp OnTap, AWS FSx
• Strong understanding of distributed systems design patterns and programming techniques
• Proven ability to design instrumentation and telemetry systems using OpenTelemetry
• Experience scaling monitoring infrastructure (Prometheus, Grafana) for high-cardinality data
• Working knowledge of container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Rancher RKE)
• Experience with major cloud providers: AWS, GCP, Azure, or private data centers
• Familiarity with deployment tools: Jenkins, ArgoCD

Bonus Skills:

• Experience with AI/ML and natural language processing
• Additional language proficiency: GoLang, Kotlin, Python

Technical Environment:

You'll work with GoLang, Java 11, Kotlin, Rust, Python, Kubernetes, Docker, S3, NFS, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, Jenkins, and ArgoCD across AWS, GCP, Azure, and private data center environments.
