TUM Venture Labs – Expert AI Infrastructure & Frontier Models (m/f/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI research initiative at the intersection of academia and venture building. Our client is building infrastructure and support systems that help deep-tech founders turn academic AI breakthroughs into globally competitive companies across a leading European research region.

This is a rare hybrid role combining deep ML infrastructure expertise with ecosystem-building instinct. You'll work directly with frontier compute resources, university research labs, and early-stage AI founders to design the technical frameworks and access models that lower barriers to building at scale.

Responsibilities

• Drive cross-institutional collaboration on flagship AI infrastructure projects spanning multiple research hubs and partner organizations
• Define technical approaches to frontier model development, addressing real-world challenges in pre-training, post-training, inference, and evaluation
• Build open innovation layers including sandboxes, APIs, and standardized formats that accelerate builder onboarding
• Design education and support programs helping research teams scale models, data pipelines, and compute into production-ready products
• Map the regional landscape of compute resources, training data, model architectures, and evaluation frameworks; identify and close critical gaps
• Coordinate fair, practical compute access across public HPC systems, AI service centers, and commercial cloud providers for startups and founders
• Manage shared training-data initiatives, develop domain-specific benchmarks, and scale evaluation best practices across the network
• Engage in technical strategy sessions with ML infrastructure experts from leading European compute centers and global tech partners

What We're Looking For

• Senior ML infrastructure expertise: deep hands-on experience across the full stack—data engineering, pre-training and post-training pipelines, inference optimization, MLOps, and cloud-native ML systems
• Credibility and network: the professional standing to build trust with top-tier universities, entrepreneurship centers, and high-growth AI startups; able to engage as a peer with leading researchers and technical founders
• Strategic systems thinking: proven ability to translate complex infrastructure challenges into actionable, ecosystem-wide strategies
• Bridge-building skills: you connect deep-tech research with applied engineering, build trusted relationships across stakeholder groups, and guide founders through hard technical decisions with empathy and clarity
• Fluency in German and English, written and spoken, required for this role
• Comfort operating in a deliberate hybrid role that moves between deep technical conversations and high-impact strategic discussions
