Aya Healthcare is hiring a traveling Surgical Tech to join its operating room team in Springfield, Illinois. This is a full-time contract position offering $2,050 to $2,242 per week with a flexible rotating schedule and immediate start date.
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Surgical Technologist to support surgical procedures in a dynamic OR environment. This 13-week contract assignment begins July 27, 2026, with rotating shifts of five days per week, eight hours per day. You'll collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to ensure smooth, safe surgical operations while maintaining strict sterile protocols.
What You'll Do
- Prepare operating rooms with sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies before each procedure
- Maintain a sterile field and hand instruments and materials to surgeons during operations
- Manage counts of sponges, needles, and instruments to prevent surgical errors
- Position and drape patients using proper aseptic technique
- Monitor vital signs and patient safety throughout surgical procedures
- Decontaminate and sterilize instruments and equipment after surgeries
- Collaborate with OR nursing and surgical teams to anticipate procedure needs
What We're Looking For
- Current Surgical Technologist certification (CST) or equivalent state licensure
- Minimum two years of surgical technologist experience in an acute-care OR
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection control standards
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure surgical environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- Commitment to patient safety and privacy compliance
