Tech Lead Grower Experience (m/w/d)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS company building digital infrastructure for the European horticulture sector. They are replacing fragmented processes with modern software and creating a shared digital platform for an entire industry.

Our client seeks a Tech Lead to build and lead a new engineering squad, take technical ownership of their browser application and backend services, and shape the future of their platform alongside the product team. This is a hybrid role based in Cologne, Germany.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture, technical quality, and evolution of the grower-facing browser application and its backend services
• Build a new engineering squad from the ground up, developing team members and establishing a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and continuous learning
• Collaborate closely with the product team to translate customer needs into sustainable technical solutions
• Ensure your team delivers software continuously, securely, and reliably—from technical specification and architecture through API design, development, operations, incident management, and continuous improvement
• Take responsibility for performance, stability, security, and compliance, ensuring technical risks are identified early, assessed, and consciously addressed
• Make architectural decisions balancing framework conventions with custom solutions while maintaining long-term maintainability and extensibility
• Use AI tools effectively in daily engineering work and help your team leverage AI responsibly for development, testing, documentation, and code reviews
• Report directly to the CTO

What We're Looking For

Required:

• Multiple years of experience as Tech Lead or Senior Engineer in web, ERP, warehouse, or e-commerce systems
• Strong practical experience with TypeScript in microservice architectures and React/Vite on the frontend
• Experience with API-first/spec-first development
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure (AWS Lambda), modern deployment processes (AWS CDK), and monitoring
• Previous experience building teams and understanding what it takes to succeed
• Interest in both product development (software) and team development (people)
• Self-directed work style, clear communication, high quality standards
• Fluent German and very good English

Preferred:

• Experience with PostgreSQL or DocumentDB
• Experience with PHP or Spryker Commerce OS
• Experience with complex order, pricing, or inventory/catalogue processes
• Startup or fast-growing technology company experience
