Tax Manager – Indirect Tax – Property Tax

EY is hiring a Tax Manager specializing in Indirect Tax and Property Tax to join our team in Birmingham, Jefferson County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to lead high-impact tax strategy engagements while growing your expertise in indirect tax compliance and property tax planning.

About the Role

You'll manage complex indirect tax and property tax engagements for a diverse client base, combining strategic tax planning with hands-on advisory work. As a Tax Manager, you'll lead project teams, drive client relationships, and develop innovative tax solutions that create measurable value.

What You'll Do

• Direct tax compliance and advisory projects focused on indirect tax (sales tax, use tax, VAT) and property tax matters
• Develop comprehensive tax strategies to optimize client positions while ensuring regulatory compliance
• Lead and develop junior staff, providing mentorship and technical guidance on tax projects
• Build and maintain client relationships as a trusted advisor on complex indirect and property tax issues
• Conduct tax research and analysis to support client advisory and compliance work
• Manage project scope, timeline, and budget to deliver results on schedule
• Stay current with changes in indirect tax and property tax regulations and industry developments

What We're Looking For

• CPA or equivalent professional tax credential
• Proven experience in indirect tax and property tax compliance and planning
• Demonstrated ability to lead professional teams and manage client engagements
• Strong analytical and research skills with ability to translate complex tax issues into practical solutions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client presentations and technical reporting
• Proficiency with tax software, accounting systems, and digital tools
• Track record of building client relationships and delivering exceptional service
