Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Platform

We are representing a confidential fintech organization that is building the future of AI-powered financial services. Our client is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect and build their agentic platform—the foundational infrastructure that enables AI capabilities to scale securely and reliably across the enterprise. This role goes beyond feature delivery; you will shape long-term technical direction and establish the engineering patterns that other teams will follow.

Responsibilities

• Design and build core services for the agentic platform, including APIs, workflow orchestration, and tool integration
• Make strategic build-versus-buy decisions, integrating third-party components where they accelerate delivery and building custom solutions where control, trust, and reuse matter most
• Collaborate with product, data, platform, and security teams to productionize shared AI capabilities
• Architect services that are reliable, secure, observable, and easy for other engineering teams to adopt
• Establish reusable engineering patterns for AI-enabled workflows across the organization
• Design and implement automated evaluation pipelines to measure agent reasoning accuracy and safety
• Ensure platform components meet the rigorous standards required in regulated financial environments

What We're Looking For

• Strong backend or platform engineering experience delivering production systems at scale
• Deep expertise across APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and service design
• Proven experience integrating internal and third-party platforms in complex environments
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguity, turning emerging needs into robust platform components
• Strong focus on quality, reliability, and developer experience
• Experience with strongly typed general-purpose programming languages (Java, Kotlin, Go, C#, or similar)
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and microservices patterns
• Experience with AI infrastructure, orchestration frameworks, or LLM integration is helpful but not essential
• Background in highly regulated industries (fintech, healthtech) where safety and compliance are core to the product is valuable but not required

Technical environment includes: Microservices architecture with RESTful APIs, event-driven messaging, cloud infrastructure (AWS), containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes), relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), observability tooling, and CI/CD pipelines with comprehensive testing.
