Senior Staff Software Engineer, Agentic Platform

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential fintech organization seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture of their agentic AI platform in Berlin. This is a unique opportunity to shape the foundational systems that enable AI agents to operate safely, reliably, and at scale across a regulated financial environment.

You will define and build the shared capabilities that power intelligent automation—including context management, orchestration, tool execution, trust controls, observability, and evaluation frameworks. You'll make critical build-versus-buy decisions, integrate third-party components strategically, and ensure the organization maintains control over the architecture that delivers competitive advantage.

Responsibilities

• Define the technical architecture for an enterprise agentic AI platform serving millions of users
• Design and build shared services including context APIs, tool layers, policy controls, and audit systems
• Implement cost-management and routing logic to optimize LLM spend across multiple providers
• Design and build automated evaluation pipelines to measure agent reasoning accuracy and safety
• Partner with product, data, security, and engineering teams to transform use cases into reusable platform capabilities
• Set engineering standards for reliability, safety, scalability, and developer experience
• Provide technical leadership across multiple teams and unblock critical architectural decisions
• Lead complex cross-team technical initiatives from design through implementation

What We're Looking For

• Deep experience building platform or infrastructure systems at scale
• Strong technical judgment across APIs, distributed systems, data architecture, and cloud-native design
• Proven track record leading complex technical problems that span multiple teams
• Experience integrating third-party platforms while maintaining architectural control
• Strong understanding of reliability engineering, security, and observability practices
• Experience with strongly typed general-purpose programming languages (Java, C#, Go, Scala, or similar)
• Experience with AI platform components is valuable but not required
• Experience in highly regulated industries (fintech, healthcare, or similar) where safety and compliance are core product requirements is highly desirable

Technology environment includes: Java/Spring Boot, event-driven architecture (SNS/SQS, Kafka), AWS cloud infrastructure, Docker/Terraform/EKS, MySQL/PostgreSQL, DataDog, CI/CD pipelines, and ML tooling.
