Software Engineer Intern (Summer 2027)

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential defense technology organization that is developing advanced autonomous systems and command-and-control software. This is a Summer 2027 Software Engineering Internship for students who want to work on real production systems with real impact.

This is a remote position open to candidates who meet U.S. export control requirements.

Responsibilities

You will own a scoped project with a clear technical or business outcome and work directly with senior engineers. Your work will contribute to production systems, not practice assignments. Responsibilities include:

• Building product features across frontend, backend, full-stack, real-time, or forward-deployed software
• Developing interfaces for telemetry, geospatial data, mission planning, scheduling, collaboration, or system health monitoring
• Building and operating backend services, APIs, event-driven systems, or data pipelines
• Writing automated tests, improving developer tooling, and helping ship production-quality software
• Supporting integration and test events, debugging issues across services and networks, and turning lessons learned into product improvements
• Presenting what you built and learned at the end of the summer

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related field
• Strong programming fundamentals and experience building a substantial software project
• Experience with a modern frontend framework, backend language, systems language, or full-stack application
• Ability to explain technical tradeoffs, debug methodically, and write maintainable code
• U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, or protected individual status as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) due to export control requirements

What sets candidates apart:

• Experience with React, TypeScript, Go, Python, Rust, C++, or similar tools
• Background in distributed systems, networking, real-time applications, maps, games, simulation, or data visualization
• Familiarity with Linux, Docker, CI/CD, customer-facing engineering, or deployed project experience

What you do not need: Aerospace experience, a perfect GPA, or a previous internship at a well-known company. Show us what you have built, analyzed, tested, organized, or improved, and be ready to explain your contribution clearly.

The pace is fast, problems will not arrive fully defined, and you may spend part of the summer learning why your first approach was wrong. Our client expects you to ask questions, test your assumptions, document your work, and leave the project better than you found it.
