Software Architect (AWS, NodeJS) – Remote, Latin America

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential software consultancy in their search for a Software Architect with deep AWS and Node.js expertise. This remote role is open to candidates based in Costa Rica and offers the opportunity to shape technical direction for high-stakes client projects across compliance-sensitive and regulated domains.

Our talent team is looking for an architect who can design low-latency, secure, multi-tenant systems and mentor engineering teams through complex technical decisions. You will work directly with clients, presenting and defending architecture choices while maintaining extreme ownership of deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect low-latency service architectures in AWS, making informed decisions about distributed components including queues, caches, and search projections
• Build systems to explicit latency budgets (p95/p99) with careful attention to synchronous durable commits in performance-critical paths
• Architect audit and evidence systems using append-only event logs, versioned or bitemporal fact models, and deterministic historical replay capabilities
• Define fail-open, fail-closed, and degraded-state semantics with clear outage postures
• Design secure multi-tenant environments, conducting tradeoff analysis between RLS, schema-per-tenant, and database-per-tenant approaches
• Build scalable RESTful APIs and architect SDK integrations to third-party services
• Develop capacity models and cloud cost/performance projections aligned with AWS Well-Architected Framework principles
• Establish technical standards, conduct architecture and code reviews, and mentor engineering teams
• Produce architecture documentation, diagrams, and technical decision records (ADRs)
• Present and defend architecture decisions in client engineering and security reviews
• Leverage AI coding assistants as part of daily development workflow

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, with 3+ years in an architecture-focused role
• Deep experience architecting large, complex systems end-to-end
• Proven experience with PostgreSQL/AuroraDB and Row-Level Security (RLS) at both data-modeling and architecture levels
• Strong expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, and JavaScript across the full stack
• Demonstrated experience architecting secure multi-tenant environments
• Experience designing to explicit latency budgets and understanding performance tradeoffs
• Background building audit/evidence systems and compliance-ready architectures
• Ability to overlap with US business hours
• Bachelor's degree required
• Extreme ownership and accountability for deliverables
• Client-focused dedication with strong problem-solving and technical leadership skills
• Meticulous attention to detail and a positive, can-do attitude

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in compliance-sensitive or regulated domains such as TCPA/DNC, fintech decisioning, or audit-heavy systems
• Background with event-driven design, message queues, and caching strategies at scale
• Advanced degree
