In this full-time position, you'll be the safety champion on site, ensuring all personnel work safely and project teams remain compliant with regulations.
About the Role
As a Site Safety & Health Officer, you'll serve as the primary safety resource for project teams, responsible for identifying hazards, developing mitigation strategies, and fostering a culture of safe work practices. You'll work directly with project managers, contractors, and field personnel to maintain standards on active construction and environmental sites across the Honolulu area.
What You'll Do
- Conduct thorough site inspections and safety hazard assessments on environmental and engineering projects
- Develop and implement comprehensive health and safety plans tailored to project scope and regulatory requirements
- Perform ongoing safety observations and audits to monitor workforce compliance and identify risk areas
- Document safety incidents, near-misses, and corrective actions; prepare detailed incident reports
- Train and brief site personnel on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and project-specific hazards
- Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure adherence to safety standards
- Maintain safety documentation, records, and regulatory filing requirements
What We're Looking For
- SSHO certification or equivalent safety credential (OSHA 30-hour card, CSP, or applicable state/federal certification)
- Demonstrated experience in construction safety, environmental project safety, or related field
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety best practices, and workplace hazard recognition
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse project teams
- Ability to document findings clearly and communicate recommendations with confidence
- Attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance
- Willingness to work on-site in outdoor and variable weather conditions
