About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential AI platform company in Germany that is building production-grade intelligent systems for enterprise clients. While others are still presenting prototypes, their customers are already working with live systems—processing their own data under strict German data sovereignty standards.

As Senior Fullstack Engineer, you'll own core architectural decisions and features across the entire stack, from retrieval systems to user interfaces. This is a role where technical depth meets product ownership, and where AI-assisted development isn't a buzzword—it's how the team actually works.

Responsibilities

• Design and scale distributed systems and microservices with focus on maintainability, stability, and long-term viability
• Build production-ready AI features including RAG-based knowledge systems, department-specific AI applications, voice capabilities, translation, and analytics functions
• Deliver full-stack: develop performant APIs, model data and databases, and implement modern frontend interfaces from retrieval layer to UI
• Implement multi-tenancy data modeling and role-based permissions ensuring users cannot access unauthorized information through AI features; build in encryption, data minimization, and auditability from the start
• Maintain visibility into quality, costs, and behavior of AI features in production through evaluations, monitoring, and guardrails to ensure platform stability at scale
• Evolve existing systems, create clear structures, and reduce technical debt strategically where it matters long-term
• Work routinely with coding assistants and agents, extract more value than autocomplete, establish team standards for AI-assisted development workflows
• Collaborate closely with product owners, UX designers, and consultants to translate real customer use cases into technical solutions
• Mentor junior developers through code reviews and make technical decisions transparent to the team

What We're Looking For

• Minimum 5 years developing complex software systems, ideally in AI, SaaS, or cloud environments
• Strong TypeScript expertise and Node.js experience, ideally with frameworks like NestJS
• Deep knowledge of software architecture for distributed systems: microservices, API design, scaling patterns
• Frontend experience with frameworks like Vue.js and solid understanding of full-stack interactions
• Strong database skills (PostgreSQL or similar), data modeling, and performance optimization
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS or equivalent), Docker, and operating SaaS applications
• AI-assisted development as standard practice: routine use of coding assistants and agents (Claude, Cursor, Copilot), understanding their limitations, critical evaluation of generated code
• Active experimentation with new tools, models, and workflows; experience with agentic setups, MCP integrations, or automated reviews is a strong plus
• Solid understanding of modern AI/LLM concepts: RAG, function calling, embeddings, agent architectures
• Clean code, testing, and code review practices as standard; willingness to mentor junior developers
• Ability to make and defend technical decisions in German and English
• Experience with GDPR, ISO 27001, or EU AI Act is a plus

You might design architecture in the morning, review pull requests at midday, and develop features in the afternoon while advancing the team's capabilities.
