Senior Software Engineer, Add-Ons

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential open-source technology organization in their search for a Senior Software Engineer to join their extension ecosystem team. In this role, you will build and maintain resilient systems that support automated moderation pipelines, developer tooling, and review workflows reaching millions of users worldwide.

Your day-to-day will include:

• Delivering major features and architectural improvements across the extension platform stack, including automated moderation systems, review tools, and developer portals
• Establishing and maintaining engineering standards for code review, production readiness, runbooks, incident response, on-call practices, and infrastructure as code
• Creating robust observability systems and data-backed insights to monitor platform health
• Building and improving CI/CD pipelines using declarative, pipeline-as-code approaches
• Working within Python/Django, MySQL, React/TypeScript, and asynchronous processing systems
• Contributing to internal developer platforms that enable teams to ship and operate software safely
• Writing clear technical documentation including design notes, Architecture Decision Records, runbooks, and incident write-ups
• Tracing requests and asynchronous jobs end-to-end to understand failures and identify improvements
• Collaborating with designers, product managers, QA, and community contributors on end-to-end improvements
• Participating in open development through pull requests, code reviews, and public discussions

What We're Looking For

Required qualifications:

• Strong hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications with Python and Django
• Proven experience operating and improving production software systems where reliability and safe delivery are critical
• Strong experience with CI/CD systems and treating pipelines and infrastructure declaratively as code
• Experience designing automated testing and deployment workflows, including integration testing and progressive delivery
• Strong understanding of observability engineering including metrics, logging, tracing, service-level objectives, and actionable alerting
• Experience building or maintaining internal tools or platforms used by other engineering teams
• Experience defining engineering practices such as code review standards, operational readiness, runbooks, and incident response
• Ability to read unfamiliar codebases and trace application behavior across frontend, backend, asynchronous jobs, and infrastructure
• Experience debugging complex production issues and turning insights into lasting improvements
• Strong technical writing skills for design documents, ADRs, runbooks, and incident reports
• Experience working iteratively with visible backlogs, regular stakeholder feedback, and actionable retrospectives
• Strong collaboration and communication skills in a distributed team environment
• Willingness to share knowledge and mentor peers in operational and reliability practices

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with Google Cloud and operating Kubernetes
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code tooling and policy-as-code
• Experience establishing SLOs and error-budget-based reliability practices
• Experience with chaos engineering, disaster recovery testing, or production readiness reviews
• Experience with trust and safety, automated moderation, or abuse prevention systems
• Contributions to open source projects

Pay

This is a remote position available in the United Kingdom. Pay via Get A Job.ai: £66,000–£87,000 GBP.
