About This Opportunity
We are representing a confidential enterprise SaaS organization seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their platform engineering team in Manchester. Our client operates at significant scale, delivering mission-critical planning and analysis capabilities to global enterprises. This is an opportunity to work on next-generation platform architecture in a hybrid cloud environment.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will:
- Design and build extensible, observable platforms that enable internal teams to develop production systems at scale
- Write Kubernetes Operators using Kubebuilder or Operator SDK to manage complex, stateful application lifecycles
- Develop custom resource definitions (CRDs) and implement reconciliation loops to automate operational knowledge
- Build high-concurrency, low-latency microservices for distributed systems handling millions of requests
- Architect and implement cloud storage solutions across hybrid environments (public cloud and private data centers)
- Design comprehensive instrumentation using OpenTelemetry for distributed tracing and root-cause analysis
- Scale observability infrastructure including Prometheus and Grafana to handle high-cardinality data
- Apply product engineering rigor to platform development, balancing user experience, reliability, and technical debt
What We're Looking For
Required Experience and Skills:
- 10+ years building and operating production-grade SaaS products at scale
- BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent professional experience as a Platform Engineer
- Advanced proficiency in Java and Rust programming
- Proven experience extending the Kubernetes API, not just writing Helm charts or YAML manifests
- Deep understanding of control plane logic, CRDs, and operator patterns
- Expertise in distributed systems programming with focus on memory-efficient, thread-safe code
- Hands-on experience with cloud storage internals: S3, NFS, NetApp OnTap, AWS FSx
- Strong understanding of data persistence performance characteristics and cost drivers across hybrid environments
- Expert-level experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana
- Experience operating workloads in Kubernetes with comprehensive observability practices
