Senior QA Engineer

About This Opportunity

We are representing a confidential SaaS organization operating across multiple European markets. They are building a dedicated QA function from the ground up and need an experienced senior QA engineer to establish automation foundations, mentor team members, and embed quality as a shared engineering discipline.

This is a greenfield role with real mandate. You'll build automation frameworks from scratch, starting with API-level coverage of critical flows, while working alongside junior and mid-level QA colleagues. The products you'll support are used daily by tens of thousands of people, and reliability directly impacts their business operations.

Responsibilities

• Build an automation framework from scratch, beginning with API-level coverage of critical end-to-end flows for products shipping multiple times daily
• Mentor QA team members into more technical and structured testing practices
• Partner with developers to build shared ownership of quality: encourage better unit testing, help define meaningful coverage, and shift quality from a QA concern to a team habit
• Run exploratory testing to surface edge cases and failure modes that specifications don't anticipate
• Own feature aftercare by monitoring releases in production, tracking stability, and driving continuous improvement
• Identify gaps that developers and product managers miss, bringing them to the table early and contributing to product decisions throughout the cycle
• Track QA metrics that matter—bug detection rate, release confidence, post-release defect counts—and own the narrative around what they mean for the product

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of QA experience with hands-on automation work and structured manual and exploratory testing; you know when each approach is the right tool
• You've built automation frameworks before, not just used them; fluency in at least one programming language and the ability to make and defend tooling decisions independently
• Track record of shifting how teams think about testing, not just shipping test suites; quality culture is something you actively build
• Ability to influence without authority: you bring developers, designers, and product closer to quality, and the habits you build outlast your direct involvement
• Clear communication of risks to engineers, PMs, and non-technical stakeholders; comfort pushing back when something isn't ready to ship
• Desire to make the people around you better, with the patience to do it consistently

Nice to Have:

• Experience with observability and monitoring tools (particularly Datadog) and connecting production signals to testing strategy
• Experience working across web, mobile, and API surfaces in a single product
• SQL skills for data validation, debugging, and exploratory testing across distributed systems
