(Senior) Design System Engineer (f/m/d)

Responsibilities

We are representing a confidential online gaming client in their search for a Senior Design System Engineer to join their technology team in Hamburg. In this role, you will:

• Evolve, expand, and maintain component libraries across iOS, Android, and Web platforms using Angular, Jetpack Compose, and SwiftUI, all fed by a shared design system
• Partner closely with UI/UX designers on component APIs, naming conventions, states, and variants, ensuring code remains synchronized with design libraries
• Define the system's architecture including theming and brand layering, versioning, releases, and establish a contribution model that encourages domain team participation
• Maintain living documentation (such as Storybook) and drive adoption through pairing sessions, code reviews, and clear migration paths
• Build accessibility and responsive behavior as core properties of all components from the ground up
• Leverage agentic coding practices and AI coding agents to accelerate development while maintaining ownership of technical decisions and code quality

What We're Looking For

Our client seeks a candidate with:

• Several years of experience as a frontend or mobile engineer, including hands-on ownership of a design system or shared component library used by multiple teams
• Strong TypeScript and Angular skills, or comparable depth in another modern framework with willingness to fully commit to Angular
• Sharp instinct for component API design and architecture
• Hands-on native UI development experience with Kotlin/Jetpack Compose or Swift/SwiftUI—you will author native components directly; strong expertise in one platform plus interest in the other is acceptable
• Experience with design tokens and theming multi-brand environments, building unified systems that support multiple brands without code forking
• Strong understanding of responsive and adaptive design principles and accessibility standards, with a habit of practical verification
• A product mindset toward internal tooling—you treat design systems as products with users and measure success through adoption rates
• Passion for enabling other teams and building consensus across engineering and design functions
